Epigenetics is a groundbreaking discovery, and it offers hope and empowerment to those being confronted with hereditary diseases. I’m excited to explore with you how epigenetics is a game-changer for everyone, and how daily decisions can impact one’s genetic destiny.

What Is Epigenetics?

Epigenetics, a term derived from the Greek words “epi” (above) and “genetics,” and it goes beyond the traditional understanding of genetics. While our genes provide the instructions for building and maintaining our bodies, epigenetics delves into the factors that regulate gene expression. In simpler terms, it explores how genes can be turned on or off, shaped by our experiences, environment, and lifestyle choices.

Genes are responsible for about 10% of human disease,
while the other 90% is determined by the environment. 
This includes lifestyle factors like nutrition,
stress levels, sleep habits, and physical activity.

For individuals burdened with a family history of diseases, the knowledge that genetics isn’t a fixed destiny is a game-changer. Unlike former genetic understanding, which suggested that our fate was sealed by our inherited DNA sequence, epigenetics introduces hope into the equation.   • Okay, we all know by now that physical activity has a multitude of benefits including weight management, cardiovascular health, stress reduction, improved sleep, emotional regulation – the list goes on! So let’s add one more big benefit to that list – movement plays a crucial role in epigenetics! Regular exercise has been shown to influence gene expression positively, promoting overall well-being and reducing the risk of various diseases.
  • Take Action: Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine, aiming for a mix of cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility exercises. Start small and build from there.
